Haunted in Denver…

Peabody – Whitehead Mansion
This Victorian-style home is rumored to be one of the most haunted spots in Denver. There are supposedly 12 ghosts haunting the mansion and there have been several reports of paranormal activity.
The mansion was home to two of Denver’s most wealthy and powerful early citizens, George Whitehead Peabody and David H. Smith. The home was purchased in 1886 by Mr. Peabody who died soon after. His widow, Mrs. Smith then took possession of the home. It is said that she never recovered from the death of her husband and died a recluse in the home just a few years later. The home has been featured on the TV show “Ghost Adventures” and has plenty of creepy stories circling it.
You can come and get a glimpse of it if you’re feeling brave enough. Who knows? Maybe you’ll even spot one of the resident ghosts.
The Oxford Hotel
The Oxford Hotel is one of the most well-known haunted places in Denver, Colorado. The hotel was built in 1891 and has been home to many famous guests, including President Teddy Roosevelt, author Jack London, and actress Mae West.
The hotel is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman named Florence Stanley, who died in the hotel in 1934. Stanley is said to haunt Room 320 of the hotel, where she is often seen looking out the window or walking in the hallways.
Molly Brown House Museum
The Molly Brown House Museum is dedicated to the life of Margaret “Molly” Brown, who was a survivor of the Titanic. Visitors have reported seeing her ghostly figure in various parts of the house.
There are also reports of a little girl’s ghost running through the halls. It is believed that the girl died in a fire at the house many years ago.
The Denver Children’s Home
Today, the Denver Children’s Home is a nonprofit organization that provides services to at-risk youth and their families. But, it has a dark history. The home was established in 1879 to provide a safe haven for orphaned and homeless children. However, conditions at the home were often deplorable. In one instance, 40 children died of diphtheria within two weeks.
The Children’s Home was also the site of a brutal murder in 1912. Emma Wagner was an employee at the home and she was strangled to death by a young boy who was a resident there. Her body was found in a closet. The murder weapon, a length of rope, was still wrapped around her neck. The boy who killed her was never identified and the case remains unsolved.
